A Forest walk and a tree hugging programme were arranged for B. Sc Botany students on 21/07/23 @ Attakatti Forest Range, Valparai. This programme was arranged for Students of first and third B. Sc Botany. Dr. A. Logamadevi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany and Dr. A. Vignesh, Assistant Professor of Botany and Ms. C. Menaka, Research Scholar accompanied the students. All participants assembled at the centre for Advanced Wildlife management at 10 AM. Special lectures on Man –Animal conflict and Endemic Orchids of Anamalai were delivered by forest officials. A movie about Anamalai Tiger Reserve was also screened. After the lecture session forest walk started with proper guidance and assistance of forest officials. All of us were taken to Hornbill view point and a walk inside the forest for 600 meters was successfully and safely finished. During the walk students were shown rare plant structures like root buttresses and they also saw many lower plants like Lichens, ferns, Algae and Bryophytes. Inside the forest, students were educated about Tree hugging, Its history and significance. All students and staff hugged massive trees and pictures were taken to document the programme. After the walk and lunch all visited the big, very well maintained Orchidarium and Gallery of Orchids. Filed observations were made in the Orchidarium and the programme was over at 5.30 PM.
