“Mathematics is the language with which God has written the Universe”– Galileo

Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1959 with the B.Sc., programme and then upgraded as the Post Graduate Department in the year 1979. Introduction of research programmes; M.Phil., in 1983 and Ph.D., in 1992 enriched it. The Department has competent faculties, actively involved in teaching, learning and research. Our alumni have occupied leading positions in top ranked industries and premier institutes across the globe. The Department is deeply involved in research and shares the knowledge and transfers it to the academic through publications, collaborations, lectures and so on. In the last two decades Department was instrumental to 203 M.Phil., and 26 Ph.D., holders. Our faculty members have published above 130 research articles in reputed International and National journals and presented more than 150 research papers in the International and National level conferences and seminars. Recently the department is supported by NBHM through annual library grant for purchase of books.

Highlights

1. Department has top notch and dynamic faculty with research activities encompassing fields of
Topology, Graph Theory and Difference Equations.
2. The undergraduate and Postgraduate syllabi are designed to equip students for exams such as
UGC-NET/SET and to place in IT and Government sectors.
3. Provide Value-added Courses with latest computer programming language and software.
4. Provide Certificate Courses to enhance entrepreneurial skills and holistic values.
5. Continuous career guidance activities afford extensive placement opportunities to about
50-60%
6. MOU has been signed with technical institutes and non-government organizations to impart
technical knowledge and inculcate social values among students.
7. Mandatory MOOC/NPTEL course completion for past graduates add extra credits.
8. Compulsory project work for postgraduate serves as a gateway to research.
9. Celebrations of International and National Mathematics day and release of magazine –
MATHZINE pave a way to expose extra talents.
10. Identify slow learners and coach them individually to improve their academic performance.

Association

Mathematics Association coined as ‘MATRIX’ stands for Mathematics Association for Thinkers of Real and Imaginary X, which provides a platform for the students to exhibit and sharpen their skills both academically and career oriented through a variety of programs planned by the Department throughout the year.

Quiz Competition: Conducting Quiz competitions enable students to explore their textual knowledge and application of the learned concepts. It provides an excellent opportunity and interactive platform to expand and update their general knowledge. The students are benefited by this program every year.
