Department of History

Vision

Our goal is to imbibe the intellectual curiosity among the students, create a quest for knowledge and the ability to translate their knowledge for their own potential to form into a morally upright, spiritually enlightened and a holistic personality.

Mission

The teaching of History aims at EMPOWERING THE YOUTH TO ENRICH THE NATION
By Training the students to think globally and historically
To apply historical method of enquiry to the contemporary problems
To understand and interpret the past

The Department of History was started in July 1972. The Department has met with a large number of acheivements when the college was under Madras University, Rank holders were very often produced after the college came under Autonomy, Syllabus was modified and new papers were introduced to facilitate the students to face the competitive examinations successfully.

  • UGC sponsored Question Bank workshop in History from 01.02.1999 to 02.02.1999.
  • UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Perspectives of Indian Tourism Industry from 24.01.2007 to 25.01.2007.
  • UGC sponsored National Conference on Human Excellence Through Ethics and Value Education from 03.10.2008 to 04.10.2008.
  • 17th Annual Session of Tamilnadu History Congress from 8.10.2010 to 10.10.2010.
  • ICHR Sponsored National Seminar on The Role of Kongu Region in the National Movement on 07.12.2012.
  • 23rd Annual Conference of South Indian Numismatic Society from 05.01.2013 to 06.01.2013
  • HRD Sponsored National Seminar on The Charismatic Past of Ancient Kongu 29.08.2013 to 31.08.2013.

The Ongoing Life Skill Programme is transformed as HELP Hour ( Health, Education, Life Skill Programme) . Sixth Hour Concept (Post College Hour) and Zero College Hour Concept are implemented

Infrastructure & Highlights

REACH (Rural Education And Cultural Heritage) on outreach forum for organising Extension Activities which has a motto “Reach the Unreached”
“Earn While Learn” programme – Part time Jobs are being provided under Earn while Learn programme.
To cater the needs of the students Pre – College Hour and Help Hour Concept are implemented: Pledge, Breathing Exercise, Meditation, and SRW Concept to Inculcate Speaking, Reading, and Writing Skill of English, Post College Hour Concept – Peer Team Learning.

Uniqueness create a lasting impression. Our department offers unique opportunities to learn with a community of scholars dedicated to understanding the past and enriching the public good through critical thinking and civic engagement.
Department organise various co- curricular and extra-curricular activities for the overall development of the Department students. The History Department has good record of results and it intended to carry the tempo in future also.

HISTORIA is an association for organizing academic activities, which has a Motto “Empowering the Youth to Enrich the Nation”.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1 Critical Thinking: To instill the ability of critical thinking ensuring to analyze the distinctive sense of belongingness and through which promotes communal harmony, patriotism and National integration
PEO2 Awareness about Duties: Creating awareness on moral, social and spiritual values for the holistic development
PEO3 General Knowledge: Enriching the Domain knowledge of the students appear for competitive examinations such as Tamilnadu Public Service Commission examinations and Union Public Service Commission Examinations

PO3 Communicative and writing skills: Ability to carefully read a complex historical narrative evaluates its deployment of evidence and understands its argument as well as critically analysis the same.
PO4 Problem Solving: Ability to identify the patterns of change and continuity with regards to issues of contemporary significances over long duration as well as diverse Geo- Cultural zones.
PO5 Individual and team work: Function effectively as member or leaders in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary environment.
PO6 Disciplinary Knowledge development: Apply possessed knowledge of fundamentals in history to solve social problems.
