NGM Centre for E-Learning
A NGM Centre for E-Learning (NCEL) has been established to provide Learning Avenue for learners by way of online courses pertaining to humanities, commerce, and Science. It will cater to the need of students and faculties from not only NGM College but also to those who are from other institutions. Live and learn anytime, anywhere with online programs and courses offered by various departments of NGM College under Centre for eLearning. Learners can take online courses along with traditional, face-to-face courses, or apply to a fully online program.
Here at the Centre for E-Learning we understand that it can be a challenging endeavour to develop an online course that promotes interaction, motivates learners, and engages learners in a meaningful way. It’s even more challenging to transform a course that has traditionally been taught in a face–to–face format to a hybrid course or online course. So we at Centre for E-Learning train our teachers and trainers so that they can develop quality e-content so that these digital contents can be used as catalyst to develop the better understanding of course in online mode.
Centre organizes training programmes to train faculty to make them acquainted with new tools and techniques which are helpful in e-content development and e-teaching. As the instructor, we are not only building a course, but also a virtual classroom that is, more than ever before, dependent on sound course design principles. We use sound online course design theories, models of instructional design, and a framework for online course design to take traditional classroom into the online ecosphere.
Objectives:
- To enhance the quality of learning and teaching
- To meet the learning style or needs of students
- To improve the efficiency and effectiveness
- To improve user-accessibility and time flexibility to engage learners in the learning process
- To provide a collaborative digital platform for both learner and teacher.

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
This is done through an indigenous developed IT platform that facilitates hosting of all the courses, taught in classrooms from 9th class till post-graduation to be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time. All the courses are interactive, prepared by the best teachers in the country and are available, free of cost to the residents in India. More than 1,000 specially chosen faculty and teachers from across the Country have participated in preparing these courses.
The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 quadrants – (1) video lecture, (2) specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts. Steps have been taken to enrich the learning experience by using audio-video and multi-media and state of the art pedagogy / technology. In order to ensure best quality content are produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed: They are AICTE for self-paced courses, NPTEL for engineering, UGC for post-graduation education, CEC for under-graduate education, NCERT & NIOS for school education, IGNOU for out of the school students and, IIMB for management studies.

NPTEL is a project of MHRD created to provide quality education to students and knowledge seekers anywhere in the world from faculty in top ranking institutions like IITs and IISc for free. It provides web and video courses across 23 disciplines as certification courses. The certification courses aids students in gaining in-depth knowledge in the topics. It also helps in personal profile development and thus in placement. NPTEL courses are also helpful for completing the minimum requirements of Honours and Minors and for gaining activity points as per the APJ Kerala Technological University guidelines. NPTEL platform also hosts video lectures covering a wide range of subjects covering the entire GATE syllabus across Engineering and Science disciplines
NPTEL has been offering self-study courses across engineering, humanities and science streams for more than a decade. These are available at: http://nptel.ac.in. From March 2014 NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate form the IITs! These are available at: https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in
To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across colleges to participate in this initiative, we are setting up SWAYAM-NPTEL chapter in colleges (with the approval of the management) which will be under the headship of a faculty member of the college, who would be our Single Point of Contact (SPOC). We will keep the SPOC updated about all the latest NPTEL initiatives and give him information which he can disseminate among the students. He can identify suitable mentors for various courses, who can ensure that students are active in a course, are submitting their assignments on time and also clarify the doubts they may have.
NGM College is a recognized Local Chapter of SWAYAM-NPTEL since Jan 2017 . Dr.S.Vijayakumar the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and in each batch some teachers are selected as the mentors for the courses.
