10th International Day of Yoga 21st June 2024

The Department of Human Excellence at NGM College, in collaboration with Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering Technology (MCET) Pollachi, Pollachi Art and Science College Poosaripatti, Nachimuthu Polytechnic Pollachi, Nehru Yuva Kendra Coimbatore, and the NSS and NCC units from Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College, organized the 10th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2024. The event, themed “Yoga for Self and Society,” aimed to highlight the importance of yoga in enhancing individual well-being and its impact on society.

The program began with meditation led by Mr. N. Panneerselvam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Excellence, setting a spiritual tone for the event. Dr. Chithiraiselvan, Assistant Professor of Commerce at NGM College, delivered a welcoming speech to initiate the proceedings. The inaugural address was given by Ms. S. Jayalakshmi, Head of the Department of Human Excellence.

Dr. R. Manicka Chezhian, Principal (I/C) of NGM College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the role of yoga and value education in promoting a healthy life. He highlighted that regular yoga practice can significantly improve individual well-being, which in turn benefits society. He inspired students by discussing how true humanity is achieved through selfless societal contributions and how empowered individuals play a crucial role in creating a balanced and harmonious society.

The special address was delivered by Dr. Hemalatha Manoharan, an Advocate and Professor in SKY Yoga, Pollachi. Her keynote talk focused on the theme “Yoga for Self and Society,” where she elaborated on the benefits of yoga practices such as pranayama, breathing exercises, and various asanas. She explained how these practices can build inner strength, confidence, and resilience, helping individuals manage stress, anxiety, and other health issues like hormonal imbalances. Dr. Hemalatha also emphasized that yoga enhances self-esteem, enabling individuals to face career challenges with greater confidence and manage personal and family responsibilities more effectively. She stressed that incorporating yoga into daily routines can help people balance work and life demands, ultimately leading to a healthier and more harmonious society, especially when embraced by the younger generation.

The event featured yoga demonstrations by students from NGM, MCET, NPT, Yuva Kendra, and Pollachi Arts and Science College, showcasing their dedication to the practice. These demonstrations reflected the event’s theme and the participants’ commitment to integrating yoga into their lives.
