An initiation into the tertiary level of learning
A Bridge Course was conducted by NGM College for the new entrants into the College for the academic year 2018-19. The three day course that had its inauguration on 25th of June was given to the newly enrolled students of both Aided and Self-Finance streams in parallel sessions before the commencement of the regular classes. This crash course was designed to bridge the gap between the students initial level of learning and the general requirements of higher education. . Experts and Professionals with rich experience in their respective fields addressed the students on various skills and knowledge sets.
The Inaugural session was presided over by the Principal of the College Dr. P. M. Palanisamy. In his presidential address, he recounted the history of the College and briefed on the academic activities of the College along with the additional learning opportunities like Research Journals, Human Excellence, Academy for Professional Development, Non-major electives, available within the campus.
Dr. V. Rajasekaran, Assistant Professor of English, VIT University, Chennai delivered the inaugural address on the topic Know the World  Rule the World. He instructed the students on developing the skill of  converting negative energy into positive energy by recounting his own experience and by citing examples of inspiring personalities like Singer Benny Dayal, actors Vijay Sethupathy and Bobby Sinha, Music Composer Hip Hop Thamizha Aathi. Medium of Education is never a barrier to Success, he said only Perseverance and Self-confidence matter. He insisted on developing three things- Belief in oneself, staying positive and a sense of gratitude- to make ones place in the world.
In another parallel session, Lion. T. Lakshimikanthan, Chairman, Shivoga Human Resource Development Centre, Coimbatore, addressed the students on the topic Sigarathai Nokki. In his inspiring speech he called Parents as the greatest motivational force for the students. He said, knowing oneself and ones purpose in life will give the student a lot of confidence in life. He also emphasized that Hard work, Gratitude and Humility would catapult one to fame.
Professor. Muthukumaravel, Head of the Department of English welcomed the gathering and Dr. Suja Matthews proposed the Vote of thanks at todays session.
Second Day of the Bridge Course began with a session on The Art of Communication given by Mr. V. Govindhasami, Head, Department of English, Parks College of Engineering and Technology, Kaniyur. He began with a brief introduction to daily communication that helps us to connect with people effectively. He quoted, If success is your aim, language is your gain. He then highlighted the universality of non verbal communication like postures, gestures, touching and body movement and gave a practical demonstration of facial expressions of anger, sorrow and happiness.
In another session, academicians from various departments and cells of the College including Controller of Examinations, Academy for Professional Development, Human Excellence, Placement Cell, NCC, NSS and Sports, Fine Arts, and Womens cell introduced their concerned departments to the students.
The third and final day of the Bridge Course began with an interesting session on Scope of Employability handled by Mr. Saravana Perumal, Placement Officer & Soft Skill Trainer, Sona College of Technology, Salem.
The Valedictory session began at 2.00 pm in the afternoon.
A few students came forward to share their experience at the Bridge Course, after which the session came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Suja Matthews.
This Bridge Course was organized by the Department of English and was attended by all the Undergraduate freshers of both aided and Self Financing Stream and Faculty from various departments.
