Celebrating the Literary Talents of Students: Book Launch Ceremony

The Department of English, NGM College, Pollachi organized a  Book Launch ceremony to celebrate the publication of fourteen books by the budding authors of NGM College on 15.9.2023. The event was the outcome of a three day workshop entitled “Writing for Children – Create and Publish” conducted by the department in association with Pachyderm Tales in May2022. The workshop produced fourteen books and sixteen authors and this year the department had the honor of showcasing the literary accomplishments of its talented students.

The ceremony commenced with an engaging welcome address by the Head of the department Dr. S. Muthukumaravel that set the tone for an afternoon filled with literary inspiration. The speaker expressed gratitude to all attendees for their presence and highlighted the significance of promoting young talent in the field of literature.

The Principal of the College, Dr. R. Muthukumaran in his Presidential address delivered an inspiring speech acknowledging the efforts put forth by the students in producing remarkable literary works. Emphasizing their dedication and passion, he commended their commitment towards personal growth through creative expression.

The momentous occasion came as the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Avinashilingam Deemed University Dr Bharathi Harishankar presented the set of first copies to Dr. N. Rajeswari, Principal, Sri GVG Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalpet.This symbolic gesture marked the official release of the books and emphasized the support from our institution towards nurturing creativity and academic excellence. The books were illustrated children’s storybooks created by the students using digital technologies. Students from various departments participated in the event.

  • €Aqualand by Tamilarasi Anandan is a surreal story about sublime Nature
  • €She and Sea a touching non fiction by Umama Munazha A
  • €Towards the Light a thought provoking story with a message by Anamika
  • €Dahlia a story about cherishing the little things in life by Asma
  • €Sossy and Juju an engaging read by Meenalosini
  • €Brita and Time a moral story by Priyadharshini L
  • €The Sea Angel by Elakkiya Selvaraj gives voice to endangered species
  • €In the Orche by Priyanga Sounder culls out a moral lesson from an orchard.

The distinguished guest speaker, Dr Bharathi Harishankar, graced the occasion with a captivating keynote address. She said creativity is a blessing allowing us to express ourself, explore new ideas, and create something that can inspire others.It is at the same time a highly difficult task because it requires a lot of imagination, discipline, and skill to produce something original and meaningful. Her insightful words resonated with both aspiring writers and avid readers, encouraging them to explore new horizons within literature.

A special address was delivered by Dr. N. Rajeswari. Her words served as a source of motivation for both budding writers and other students. She applauded and appreciated the young authors for their creativity and hard work.

A heartfelt Vote of thanks by Dr. Suja Mathew, Associate Professor of English expressing gratitude towards everyone who contributed to making this event possible, including the coordinator of the workshop and Director& CEO, Pachyderm Tales, Dr. Lakshmi Priya, esteemed dignitaries, sponsors and attendees, concluded the proceedings on an appreciative note. She also announced that the books were available for purchase at Amazon.

After the formal program, the participants were treated to a delightful high tea reception. This provided an opportunity for networking, engaging in literary discussions, and celebrating the achievements of our student authors.

The event was a memorable experience for the staff of the department of English as they exulted over constructing a platform that nurtured creativity in young talents to shine in the world.
